Elections for the 23rd term of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and members of key Standing Committees of the Kalaburagi City Corporation are scheduled to take place on August 7, 2025.
As per a recent gazette notification issued by the Urban Development Department, the Mayor’s post has been reserved for a woman from the General category, while the Deputy Mayor’s post is reserved for a candidate from Backward Classes B category.
According to a notification from the Regional Commissioner of Kalaburagi Division, candidates must submit their nominations to the Additional Deputy Commissioner before 10:30 a.m. on the day of the election. Attendance of elected members will be recorded at 12:00 p.m.
The election process for the Mayor will begin at 12:30 p.m., which includes scrutiny of nominations, withdrawal (if any), voting (if necessary), and declaration of results. The same process will follow immediately for the election of the Deputy Mayor.
Elections will also be held for members of several key Standing Committees, including:
- Taxation, Finance and Appeals
- Public Health
- Education and Social Justice
- Town Planning and Improvement
- Accounts
These committee elections will be conducted using the Proportional Representation system through Single Transferable Vote, as outlined in the official notification.
In the previous 22nd term, held on July 30, 2024, Congress candidates Yellappa Naikodi (Ward 53) and Heena Begum (Ward 10) were elected unopposed as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The 55-member Kalaburagi City Corporation currently has 33 votes under the Congress, comprising 27 elected councillors and 6 ex-officio members — including prominent leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge (Rajya Sabha), MP Radhakrishna Doddamani, and MLAs Allamprabhu Patil, Kaneez Fatima, Thippannappa Kamaknoor, and Chandrashekar Patil.
The BJP-JD(S) alliance holds 22 votes, consisting of 22 BJP councillors, JD(S) councillors, and legislators Basavaraj Mattimod, Shashil G. Namoshi, and B.G. Patil.
