Kalaburagi: District minister Priyank Kharge inspected the newly renovated SM Pandit Rangamandir (auditorium) on Sunday, after a comprehensive facelift funded by a ₹4.8 crore grant from the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB) for 2024-25.
Renovation Highlights
- Originally built in 2009, the auditorium had become worn and required major upgrades.
- Renovation works, completed over six months, included:
- Installation of 855 new push-back high-quality seats (552 on ground floor, 303 on first floor), each with a water bottle holder.
- A sophisticated sound system ensuring clear, reverberation-free audio.
- Coloured decorative lighting and new stage curtains for enhanced stage appeal.
- A complete rewiring of the electrical system, with generator backup for emergencies.
- Basic facilities including drinking water for spectators.
Minister’s Role
Minister Kharge had performed a puja for the renovation in late January and closely monitored the progress, offering necessary guidance throughout.
Cultural Significance
The refurbished SM Pandit Rangamandir is now ready to serve as a premier hub for art, literature, music, and cultural programmes in Kalaburagi, offering audiences an enhanced experience in a modernised venue.
