Director-General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services) Alok Kumar has ordered a probe into a viral video allegedly showing inmates gambling, smoking, and consuming alcohol inside Kalaburagi Central Prison. He has also announced a personal visit to the prison to review the situation and identify lapses.
According to the Prisons and Correctional Services Department, a case has been registered against four inmates at Farhatabad Police Station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act. Preliminary findings suggest the incident occurred two to three months ago. One of the accused inmates, Munikrishna alias Kappe from Bengaluru, was released on December 2, 2025.
Additional Inspector-General of Prisons P.V. Anand Reddy has been directed to conduct a preliminary inquiry starting Friday, while the DGP will visit the prison on Saturday. The incident has triggered public outrage and drawn comparisons with earlier controversies at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara prison.
