Congress wins Kalaburagi Mayor & Deputy Mayor posts in closely fought election

Kalaburagi: In a keenly contested election held at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hall (Town Hall) on August 07, 2025, Congress candidates Varsha R. Jane (Ward 43) and Tripti S. Lakhe (Ward 45) were elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kalaburagi City Corporation, now in its 23rd term.

  • Mayor Election:
    Varsha R. Jane won with 36 votes, defeating BJP’s Gangamma Mannolli (Ward 5), who secured 27 votes. Interestingly, four JD(S) councillors defied their party’s alliance with the BJP and voted for the Congress candidate.
  • Deputy Mayor Election (Reserved for Backward Classes – Category B):
    Tripti Lakhe emerged victorious with 33 votes, while BJP’s Parvati polled 27 votes and JD(S)’s Vijayalakshmi received 3 votes.

Of the 66 eligible members, 63 participated in the voting, including 55 ward corporators, 3 MLAs, and 6 MLCs. Voting was conducted through a show of hands.

The results were announced by Kalaburagi Division Regional Commissioner Zaheera Naseem.

Prominent leaders present included Kaneez Fathima (MLA & Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Chairperson), Allamprabhu Patil (MLA, Kalaburagi South), Basavaraj Mattimood (MLA, Kalaburagi Rural), and MLCs Tippannappa Kamakanoor, Jagadev Guttedar, Shashil G. Namoshi, and Dr. B.G. Patil.
