Kalaburagi: Gulab Wadi Government School in Urgent Need of Repairs, Say Locals and Activists

Concerned residents and student groups have voiced serious concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of a government lower primary school situated in the Gulab Wadi area of Kalaburagi. The school, which predominantly educates children of daily wage workers and construction labourers, is reportedly in a state of neglect.

On May 21, members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), led by district vice-president Preethi Doddamani, submitted a formal petition to the Deputy Director of the Department of School Education and Literacy. The petition urged prompt action to address structural and sanitary issues affecting the school.

According to Ms. Doddamani, the building suffers from major infrastructure problems, including a leaking and cracked roof that poses risks during the monsoon season. While toilet facilities exist, they remain unusable due to an absence of running water. Rainwater also accumulates inside classrooms, severely disrupting the learning environment.

She further informed the media that education officials have assured them of a visit to the school, with the promise of initiating corrective measures soon.
