Two Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in 2016 Kalaburagi Murder Case

Kalaburagi: The Principal District and Sessions Court in Kalaburagi has sentenced two men to life imprisonment in connection with the 2016 murder of a construction material and sand broker at Venkatabennur village, Kalaburagi taluk.

The convicts, Khaja Mainuddin of Abubakar Colony and Isak Shaboddin of Azadapur, were found guilty of murdering Mohammad Azharuddin.

According to the prosecution, Khaja Mainuddin, unable to tolerate Azharuddin’s professional progress, conspired with Isak Shaboddin to eliminate him. They lured Azharuddin under the pretext of going fishing. On reaching a lake near Venkatabennur, the duo attacked him with a hammer, killing him on the spot. His hands and feet were tied before the body was thrown into the lake.

A case was registered at the Suburban Police Station in 2016. Following investigation, police filed a chargesheet and the case went to trial.

Delivering the verdict, Principal District and Sessions Judge G.L. Lakshminarayana sentenced both convicts to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹25,000 each.

Public Prosecutor S.R. Narasimhalu represented the government in the case.
